STORE CATTLE

Junction 36: Where store cattle shine every time

Another standout day at J36, where the store cattle trade continues to set the bar sky high. Vendors once again reaped the rewards of bringing stock to a market that delivers sale in, sale out.

Top price of the day was secured by Messrs RG & LR Holmes with a Lim bullock at £2460. The same good home had a further two bullocks at £2460. The same good home had a further two bullocks at £2440 and £2400. Stab steers hit £2140 from Tony Booth while Messrs Hodgson of Howriggs sold bullocks up to £2090 at just 12months of age. Messrs Holmes also had a nice run of heifers hitting £2160 and £2100 for Limousins. Angus heifers topped at £2040 for a pen of three these were from JE DJ ER Wightman. The same home had a BB heifer at the same money.

A good show of feeding bulls forward were also met with a sparkling trade topping at £1980 from S Bosworth for a BB. Messrs Rogerson also had a nice run of bulls in with one of their BB selling for £1960 at just 10m. TW Gorst then sold a cracking Limousin bull even younger at 9m for £1880.

STIRKS

A trade to match the weather with British Blue x steers selling to £1660 from C Jackson with other beef bred steers (8-10 month old) generally £960-£1200. Heifers to £1120 for 6 month old British Blue x with others £990-£1100. Bulls sold to £1620 for 8 month Limousin x from JM & NJ Strickland with others at £1440. Dairy bulls sold to £780 for Black & White 8 month old from JB & C Lamb.

CULL COWS

Beef cows sold to 364.5p/kg for a Blonde x from E Dodgson with endless beef cows 280-310p/kg. Top of the market was a Simmental x from C Bennett achieving £2651. Dairy cows sold to 269p/kg for Black & White from MS & G Mason with other better end 250-265p/kg, parlour types 230-245p/kg. Top grossing again from MS & G Mason at £2231. OTM heifers sold to 289p/kg and £2388 for Aberdeen Angus x from BJ Bowness with dairies to 269p/kg and £1535. Cull bulls sold to 269p/kg and £2641.

Numbers keep rolling in here at J36’s calf capital with once again new faces selling and spectating.

Trade for bull calves remained good despite a few buyers missing due to the weather. Topping today at £930 was a Limousin from Bambers Farm, Thurnham with a Charolais from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall next at £900. British Blues to £870 from Messrs Sowerby, Appleby with Aberdeen Angus reaching £760 from Messrs Dennison, Aldingham. Younger month old bulls sold to £650 (x2) from JS & IM Wilson, Monk Foss and for one from R & SA Wilson, Dent. Black and white bulls sold to £510 from Messrs Dennison, Aldingham.
Heifer calves to £810 for British Blue from Bambers Farm, Thurnham with other British Blue to £800 from Messrs Sowerby, Appleby. Charolais sold to £800 from CR Dickson and £780 from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall. Limousin also to £780 from CM & CS Chappelhow, Penrith with Aberdeen Angus to £690 from Messrs Dennison, Aldingham. 1 month old heifers to £680 for British Blue from A Pickthall, New Hutton and £530 for Aberdeen Angus from TW & CA Long, Ulverston.
